One places the corkscrew over the bottle to be opened. It isn't necessary to remove the cork covering. Press a button on the side of the corkscrew to keep it tight against the bottle. Turn the handle counter clockwise and the cork is retracted into the opener. Then what? You're left with the cork inside the corkscrew. I've had to hold the cork with a pair of pliers to remove it fro m the corkscrew. There's probably a better way, but I couldn't figure it out. (Posted on 12/30/11)
